How long do these extensions last?
These handmade dreads will last a lifetime, you can wear them over and over. The more you wear them the faster the maturing process will happen.
Can I wash my hair with them in?
Absolutely! You can wash your hair as much or as little as you would like with the extensions in.
You will wash your hair like you normally would in the shower. You can use any shampoo, just no conditioner because that can cause build up on the extensions.
After getting out of the shower, wrap your hair up in a towel for 30 minutes to help soak up some of the water and don't sleep with wet dreads.
Will this damage my hair?
Dreadlock extensions are a protective hairstyle so they will not damage your hair as long as you install them properly.
Since I've started my dread extension journey, my hair has never been healthier, longer, thicker and softer.
Are they itchy?
The method that I use is Twist & Seal which are known to be less itchy and irritating than other methods used to create locs. I also use a high-quality synthetic fiber called Henlon which also doesn't have a chemical coating.
How long do I keep them in for?
I recommend keeping the extensions in for 6-8 weeks at a time with a good install. If you can fit a finger through the top of the braid then it is time to take them out and do a new install.
Keeping an install in for too long can also cause the hair at the base to mat up but do not panic if this happens because you can brush it out without causing any damage.
How long does my hair need to be?
You only need at least 3 inches of hair to install these extensions.
There is no length that is too long to install these either. Keep in mind that we only have about a 6-8 inch dreaded section on our wavy selection so if you have incredibly long hair it may not fit on the dreaded portion.
What do I do when I receive my extensions?
First of all, congrats on your order of our handmade dreadlock extensions! You will absolutely love them! You're on your way to having a sh*t ton more confidence!
These extensions don't have any chemical coating so you don't need to detox them but I would suggest soaking and washing them with some shampoo and let them dry before installing.
Prep for install day, gather all of your tools that are listed in the Dreaducation page and don't overthink your install at all because at the end of the day it is a learning curve and it doesn't have to be that serious! You don't need a professional to install these, you can install yourself or enlist a friend to help you with your sectioning or install. As long as you know how to do a standard braid you can install these.
What products do I need?
I suggest Dollylocs Conditioning Oil to keep your scalp from getting too dry. If you have a set of wavys you can also use the conditioning oil to separate each wavy loc so they don't dread together.
You can also use Dollylocs cleansing spray to keep your locs fresh in between wash days or just for added scent.
